Six years ago I left home for a five week summer study abroad in the gorgeous southern French city of Nice.
I was thrilled.
I couldn’t wait for the sunshine, the ocean, the sultry chic of southern France – I had read about it for years and finally I was going to be there! I was literally in tears of excitement and joy as the plane touched down. I had planned out everything I wanted to see and do.
What I didn’t plan on, though, was gaining 20 pounds in five weeks.
Isn’t the saying, ‘Go to Europe, lose a stone?’ What happened to that?!
Moreover, isn’t the French Paradox that they can eat so much fat and pastry and still stay slim? I’d been cheated!!
Or maybe the French had been cheated – because I probably ate twice as much pastry as the typical tourist is allotted!
Over the next few weeks, I want to tell you the story of Nice – of my time there, what I learned, what I ate (!), and the mess that my heart and body were when I returned.
And then, much more positively, (don’t worry, I’m not going to leave you with a downer like that!) I want to tell you how I changed. My mind, heart, and body – realizing that they are inextricably linked and that we all have what it takes to bring them back into a healthier alignment. And more than just healthier – absolutely life-giving, freeing, and joyful!
I will be honest – I had pretty much come to doubt that there even existed a way to take care of my body and wellness that worked and didn’t drive me insane.
But fortunately, I was totally wrong. If you’ve been thinking something along those lines, come with me – back to Nice. I promise it will be a world-opening adventure! I’ll share my personal photos, a few funny stories, and the principles I learned – and which you can (please do!!) totally use yourself – for taking care of my body in a way that was pure pleasure – no guilt, no shame, no deprivation, just life to the fullest.
So get packed! Let’s go!!
